Artists Statement
My work is a diary of sorts, it anchors me to reality, a lens of visual translation that enables me to understand human thought and behaviour at a deeper level. The unreality of day to day existence is relentless, a maze of whirring dualities and circus mirrors, through paint I tune in to the collective consciousness and become a translator for the unsaid and unseen.
The paintings reflect on the agony of life, escapism, addictions. To escape in to creative expression and channel the unconscious in to a tangible 3D space is a completely magical process and is profoundly healing.
I find oil paint the perfect conduit for powerful urgent expression, it enables me to work quickly and preserve my thoughts on canvas before I know of their presence. Often within frenzied bursts of energy I am consumed by my process and will often use whatever is at hand to create, finding peace within the chaos. It is only in later reflection and observation of my pieces that I am able to ascertain the meanings, messages and warnings that they hold.
